  • Sisters in Crime - an international organization of writers, readers, booksellers, librarians, agents, editors, reviewers and teachers interested in promoting the work of women mystery writers

  • Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators - acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers and others involved with literature for young people
  • Western Writers of America - promotes the literature of the American West and bestow Spur Awards for distinguished writing in the western field

Local Organizations

  • Bay Area Professional Writer's Guild - an organization of Professional Freelance Writers of Non-Fiction

  • Florida Freelance Writer's Association - provides a much-needed link between Florida writers and buyers of the written word; and furthers professional development of writing and marketing skills of Florida writers

  • Pinellas County Arts Council is to serve as an advocate for the arts, by promoting the development and appreciation of the arts in Pinellas County through programs and services for the arts industry, government and the community-at-large

  • St. Petersburg Writers' Club meets the first and third Thursday nights at Piccadilly's Restaurant, 22d Ave. N. and 34th St. (Rt. 19), at 6:30 p.m. Piccadilly's is at the south end of the small shopping center where Staples is.

    Since they pay no rent for the room, members and visitors are asked to go through the cafeteria line and get something to eat. Many of us arrive around 5:30-6:00 and have dinner; others get just a drink and dessert. Iced tea, coffee and water are available for refills in the meeting room.

  • The Gulfport Writer's Group meets at the Senior Citizen Center every Friday morning at 9:30.

  • PASAWOR (Pasco Authors and Writers Organization) meets the first and third Mondays, 12:30 to 3:00 PM, at the Pasco Art Council, 5744 Moog Rd in Holiday, FL. Contact Barbara Harrington at shadowbooks@ij.net or call 727-572-6345.

  • Lifelong Writers, the membership arm of the Florida Center for Writers, meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the MMH building at the University of South Florida, Tampa campus.
